What to weigh up
Why borrowers consider it
Operating since 2018, public loan-book reporting and a separate Proof of Reserves program give borrowers concrete evidence to inspect.
Tradeoffs and responsibilities
A lower advertised APR is available elsewhere. Collateral can be re-posted under specified funding arrangements, and liquidation remains possible.
Operating evidence and its limits
Operating history
Ledn reports lending operations since 2018 and more than $11 billion in originations. Scale and longevity provide context; neither guarantees future performance. Read the source ↗
Rated senior ABS notes
Ledn’s February 2026 announcement reports an S&P BBB− rating on senior notes in its $188 million ABS. The rating applies to that security, not to all Ledn obligations or customer collateral. Read the source ↗
Reporting and reserves
The Open Book Report and separate Proof of Reserves program offer different evidence. Check their dates, coverage and limitations rather than treating either as a full company audit. Read the source ↗
Collateral permissions
The Custodied Loan policy permits restricted re-posting under specified funding arrangements and prohibits lending the collateral out to generate interest. Read the source ↗
Common questions about Ledn
These answers cover borrowing costs, collateral and repayment. Eligibility and the signed agreement determine the terms of an actual loan.
What is Ledn and how does borrowing work?
A managed Bitcoin-backed loan with published amount-based APR tiers, a documented lending history and public reporting.
What rate does Ledn charge?
The reviewed source shows 9.25–10.99% (published apr tiers). 9.25% tier begins at $2M; 10.99% below $250K. See source discrepancy note.
Which collateral can I use with Ledn?
The documented collateral is BTC. 50% typical starting LTV. Supported assets and limits must match the specific product and account offer.
Who controls collateral with Ledn?
The documented model is: Custodied; restricted re-posting permitted. A lower advertised APR is available elsewhere. Collateral can be re-posted under specified funding arrangements, and liquidation remains possible.
How long can I borrow and what can I receive?
The documented term or structure is: 12 months standard. Funding is described as Fiat / stablecoins. Confirm the repayment asset and schedule before borrowing; a crypto payout may require a separate conversion to pay a fiat expense.
What fees should I include in a Ledn quote?
APR includes applicable fees; jurisdiction matters. Compare net proceeds and the payoff amount on your planned repayment date. Avoid adding a charge twice if it is already included in APR.
Can Ledn re-post my Bitcoin collateral?
Yes, under specified arrangements. Its Custodied Loan policy permits restricted re-posting to an institutional USD funding partner or a Ledn-sponsored financing vehicle. It prohibits lending the collateral out to generate interest. Custodied does not mean never re-posted.
Does Ledn’s bond rating guarantee my Bitcoin?
No. The reported BBB− rating concerns senior notes of a specific securitization, not customer collateral or every Ledn obligation. It does not prevent liquidation or insure a borrower’s assets.
What happens at Ledn loan maturity?
Ledn’s published guidance says that from January 1, 2027, accrued interest and applicable fees must be paid at maturity or mid-term refinancing, including for existing loans. Renewal depends on eligibility and LTV below 65%; collateral can be sold to settle a shortfall.
Is Ledn’s Open Book Report the same as Proof of Reserves?
No. Open Book reporting and the separate Proof of Reserves engagement have different scopes. The Open Book disclaimer says the reporting is not an audit, review or attestation and provides no assurance opinion. Read each document’s scope and date.
Can I lose collateral when borrowing through Ledn?
Yes. Collateral-price declines, interest accrual or failure to meet repayment obligations can lead to collateral sales under the applicable rules. Custody, counterparty, smart-contract and operational risks depend on the product. Keep a repayment and collateral-management plan; no rate or starting LTV makes a loan risk-free.
